Psalm 28:9 – Part 13

Psalm 28:9 Save Your people, bless Your inheritance, shepherd them and carry them forever.

Today we are left with David concluding the Psalm with three final requests, bless Your inheritance, shepherd them and carry them (lift them up) forever.  Of course all three are dependent and in a way a restatement of the first request, “Save Your people.”  Yesterday we meditated on salvation.  Today, let’s deal with “bless Your inheritance.”

What does it mean that we ask God to bless us, because we are His inheritance?  The Bible is full of blessing.  In Genesis 2, God blesses Adam and Eve.  Later, He blesses Noah, and after that, He blesses Abraham.  By faith, we believe God will continue to bless His people.  King David will end the next Psalm with a similar thought.

Psalm 29:11 Adonai gives strength to His people. Adonai blesses His people with shalom.

Rabbi’s Note: Psalm 29:11 is part of our Torah service liturgy.  Shalom is “complete wholeness, perfection, lacking nothing” as described in Jacob 1:4 And let endurance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.  As we persist (remain faithful), may we do so in shalom.”  End RN.

The act of “blessing” in Hebrew has a meaning of “bending the knee.”  It is the act of bowing down.  We don’t want God to “bow down” to us, but we would love for Him to stop and give us His attention.  God already gave us His Son.  What more is there?  As we receive Yeshua into our lives and mature in Him, we begin to bear fruit which is the blessing, both to God and to us.

John 15:7 “If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you. 8 In this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be My disciples.”

Let’s build on this tomorrow, as we meditate on the next request, that God would be our shepherd.  Shalom shalom.
