Psalm 29:3 – Part 3

Psalm 29:3 The voice of Adonai is over the waters. The God of glory thunders—Adonai is over mighty waters.

The Voice (“Kol”: Quf-Vav-Lamed) of Adonai(YHVH) is the first word of six out of the next seven verses.  Waters are mentioned twice in today’s verse.  Its three parts are beautifully symmetrical.  Waters - God of glory - many waters.  Voice of God - God of glory - God is over (mighty waters).  And in the middle of it all is the thunder of His voice, just like at Mount Sinai.

Exodus 19:19 When the sound of the shofar grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him with a thunderous sound.

Throughout history, people have been running away from the voice of God.  Exodus 20:21 The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.  Today, God is raising up a people who will respond to his voice by faith, without fear.  Psalm 95:7 For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the flock of His hand. Today, if you hear His voice.  This verse is quoted by the Messianic rabbi who wrote the book of Hebrews (3:15).

John writes how of the voice of God is like thunder throughout the book of Revelation, thunder plus voices (19:6), thunder plus harps (14:2), thunder plus a lion’s roar (10:3).

In just the previous Psalm, King David admonishes us that what distinguishes us as God’s people, is that we can hear His voice.  Psalm 28:1b  …If You were silent to me, I would become like those going down to the Pit.  Yeshua put it this way… John 8:47a He who belongs to God hears the words of God.

Lord, open our ears so that we might hear.  Isaiah 30:21 Your ears will hear a word behind you saying: “This is the way, walk in it. When you turn to the right, or when you turn to the left.”  Shalom shalom.
