RR Psalm 31:21 Part 17

Shavuah Tov,

Psalm 31:21 In the shelter of Your presence You hide them from people’s plots. You conceal them in a sukkah from the strife of tongues.

Based on this verse, we pray this prayer…. Oh Lord our God, we call upon You to protect us, Your people, from the plots (schemes and conspiracies) of our enemies (mentioned previously in verse 16), who use their tongues to speak against us.  Hide us in plain sight.  By the power of the name of Yeshua, Amen.

I’m captured by the phrase translated “conceal them in a sukkah.”  Have you ever seen a sukkah?  It is a temporary hut with no floor, transparent walls and a ceiling so porous you can see the stars through it.  In Hebrew it is “Titz’p’nem B’Sukkah.”  The Shoresh of “Titz’p’nem” is “Tzafan,” from which we get “Tzafon” on Passover.  That is the eighth step of the Passover Seder, when we eat the Afikomen.

Rabbi Trail:  The “Afikomen” is the hidden piece of the broken middle matzah representing the body of Messiah.  It is hidden from Jewish eyes, at the start of the Seder, just as Messiah is hidden today from Jewish sight.  Then, like at every Passover Seder, the afikomen will be found by His people and revealed at the marriage supper of the Lamb.  John tells this story in the introduction to his Gospel… John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him; but the world did not know Him. (They could not find Him.) 11 He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him. End RT.

Only the Lord can hide us in plain sight.  Yeshua did that for Himself… John 8:59 Then they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Yeshua hid Himself and went out from the Temple.  And He will appear along with us….  Colossians 3:4 When Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him, in glory!  So then, we shall all be seen in glory.

This theme of being hidden and then revealed is not new.  Psalm 27:5 For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His sukkah, conceal me in the shelter of His tent, and set me high upon a rock.  And, it will come up again in the next Psalm.  Psalm 32:7 You are my hiding place—You will protect me from distress. You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah!  Better get ready… Yeshua is coming.  Shalom shalom.
