RR Psalm 45:11-13(10-12) Part 10

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Psalm 45:11 “Listen, O daughter, consider and incline your ear. Forget your people and your father’s house. 12 Then the king will desire your beauty. Honor him, for he is your lord. 13 A daughter of Tyre comes with a gift. The richest people will court your favor.”

Today we will study the last half of these same three verses as yesterday, beginning in the middle of verse 12.  “Honor Him, for He is your Lord.”  (I notice the TLV chose not to capitalize the pronouns and names which I believe apply to God.)  This “King” is our “Lord.”  Remember, the definition of “Lord” is One Who is obeyed immediately and without question.

The Hebrew words for “honor-Him” is “Hish’ta’cha’vi-Lo,” meaning “bow down (in submission) to Him.”  This is our proper response to how much God (remember this from yesterday’s teaching) is extremely desirous for us.  God thinks you are beautiful, and if you don’t agree with Him, that is sin.  Calling God a liar is sin.  God says you are beautiful (or handsome, if you are a male), and we dare not contradict His judgment.  Peter puts it like this…

1Peter 3:3 Don’t let your beauty be external—braiding the hair and wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Instead let it be in the hidden person of the heart, with the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

Finally for today, in verse 13… The “daughter of Tyre” is representative of the wealth of this world.  That is confirmed by the next phrase.  God has purposed to give you the abundant life.  The Torah says as much…. Deuteronomy 30:9 Adonai your God will make you prosper in all the work of your hand—in the fruit of your womb, and the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil—for good. For Adonai will again rejoice over you for good, as He rejoiced over your fathers.

Paul said as much to Timothy (his son in the faith)… 1Timothy 6:17 Direct those who are rich in this present age not to be proud or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God—who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.  And again to the Philippians 4:19 My God will fulfill every need of yours according to the riches of His glory in Messiah Yeshua.  Shalom shalom.
