RR Psalm 45:11-13(10-12) Part 9
Rabbi’s Reflections - Thursday, January 29, 2026
Shalom,
Psalm 45:11 “Listen, O daughter, consider and incline your ear. Forget your people and your father’s house. 12 Then the king will desire your beauty. Honor him, for he is your lord. 13 A daughter of Tyre comes with a gift. The richest people will court your favor.”
Again, we must remember, this is not prose, but poetry. The language is not to be taken literally, but each word is chosen with symbolic meaning. In other words, there is a greater reality being described in these few words. First, we have to know, who is this “daughter?” She is clearly one who is called out, separate and distinct from the other daughters mentioned in the previous verse.
This daughter has a call on her life that is distinct from her sisters. She is called here to “listen and consider.” Using her senses, she is directed to listen and look into the matter about to be brought to her attention. The command is to forget her own people, “your father’s house.” Why? Eyes on Him. Hebrews 12:1b Let us run with endurance the race set before us, 2a focusing on Yeshua, the initiator and perfecter of faith.
The leaders of this “daughter’s people” are the rabbinical authorities. We must forget what we see them do and embrace God’s commandments which they proclaim. Matthew 23:2 saying, “The Torah scholars and Pharisees sit on the seat of Moses. 3 So whatever they tell you, do and observe. But don’t do what they do; for what they say, they do not do.”
Yes, eyes on Him, for He (this King) is the One Who greatly desires you. The Hebrew word translated as “desire” is taken from “Ava” (Aleph-Vav-Hey). It is an extreme word indicating extreme desire. According to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, “Covet, greatly desire, be desirous, long, lust after.” One translation I saw even indicated “reverent devotion.”
What makes us so beautifully attractive to the King? It is not our image but our obedience, which is biblical listening. When we keep our eyes on Him and do what He says, the King finds us irresistible. Song 7:11 I am my lover’s, and his desire is for me. And the fullness of God’s love has been revealed through Yeshua. 1John 4:9 The love of God was revealed among us by this—that God sent His one and only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. Behold the Son and receive the gift of eternal life. We’ll go a little deeper into these same verses tomorrow. Shalom shalom.
