RR Charis’ Location By David Harwood
Shabbat Shalom,
Where is favor found?
Without doing harm to the intent of the Scriptures we can translate charis as favor. Favor is often revealed in the heart, and act, of kindness to someone found worthy of love. One way love is revealed is in kindness. Love is kind. (1 Corinthians 13:4b)
Our Father and Yeshua’s favor (charis) is mentioned in the beginning of each epistle. Yeshua’s favor (charis) is invoked at the end of practically every one of them.
Father has determined to display His favor (charis) through Yeshua, and Yeshua is where saving-favor is located. Yeshua is the incarnate favor of our Father. Our Messiah is where Abba’s favor is forever found.
We were saved because of God’s favor, given to us in Yeshua, from eternity past.
He has saved us and called us with a holy calling—not because of our deeds but because of His own purpose and grace (favor/charis). This grace (favor/charis) was given to us in Messiah Yeshua before time began (2 Timothy 1:9)
Favor was given to us in Messiah Yeshua. That’s where favor is from.
Right now, God’s favor that is in Yeshua is available to us.
Therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace (favor/charis) that is in Messiah Yeshua. (2 Timothy 2:1)
From eternity past, to the immediate present, favor is found in Yeshua our Messiah.
What about the future? We’re exhorted to set our whole expectation for our inclusion in the age-to-come in the revealing of eschatological favor. When will this charis/grace be fully manifested? At the end of this age, when Yeshua is completely revealed.
... set your hope completely on the (favor/charis) that will be brought to you at the revelation of Yeshua the Messiah. (1 Peter 1:13b)
Meanwhile, we rejoice in the expectation of the glory of God.
Therefore, having been made righteous by trusting, we have shalom with God through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. Through Him we also have gained access by faith into this favor (charis/grace) in which we stand and boast in the hope of God’s glory. (Romans 5:1–2)
I urge you to note that while we are in this twilight life we exist in “The Favor Zone”. You exist in the sphere of divine favor. You’ve been made righteous. You have shalom with God. You have access through faith into the delight of God’s heart. All of this is through Yeshua. It is through the Messiah’s favor that we are able to confidently boast in a coming blessed eternity.
When the glory of God is revealed, we shall be like the glorified Son of Man.
For our citizenship is in heaven, and from there we eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Yeshua the Messiah. He will transform this humble body of ours into the likeness of His glorious body, through the power that enables Him even to put all things in subjection to Himself. (Philippians 3:20–21)
Is it because of our good deeds that we will qualify for this? No. It is because of the favor (charis/grace) that is found in Yeshua. Through His favor we stand and boast in the confident expectation of future glory, eagerly waiting for our Savior to return.
I believe our praises would be on a whole other level if we really believed that we lived in the sphere of God’s favor. We gather in the presence of the Father who favors us. He likes who He sees when He sees us. He lights up when we show up.
It is true that righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne (Psalm 89:15a). Isn’t it wonderful that the throne which is established on these attributes is the throne of favor.
Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace (charis/favor) with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace (charis/favor) for help at the time of our need. (Hebrews 4:16)
Favor is found at the throne of God. Father’s favor is incarnate in His Son who is seated at His right hand.
... looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
God favors you, and His favor is in Yeshua.
