RR Psalm 37:34 Part 21
Shavuah Tov,
Psalm 37:34 Wait for Adonai and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
In many ways, this verse is a restatement of verse 9… Psalm 37:9 For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for Adonai—they will inherit the land.
Rabbi Trail: Both of these verses mention the virtue of “waiting for Adonai.” It made me look for other places where this is mentioned. The second time the Hebrew word for “waiting” (Qavah: to look forward patiently yet with expectation.) is used, is curiously in the middle of Jacob blessing his sons. Genesis 49:18 For your salvation I wait, Adonai! Suddenly, between sons seven (Dan - Judgment) and eight (Gad - Fortune) there is an unexpected mention of waiting for Yeshua. And guess what… thousands of years later, we’re still waiting, not for His coming, but for His return. End RT.
This “waiting for His coming” has always included land… “He will exalt you to inherit the land.” Both verses 9 and 34 agree, and Zechariah tells us which land is promised. Zechariah 14:4a In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives which lies to the east of Jerusalem. The waiting will be over, and His oneness complete… Zechariah 14:9 Adonai will then be King over all the earth. In that day Adonai will be Echad and His Name Echad.
Yeshua’s authority will be so complete that any opposition remaining will receive a plague… Zechariah 14:12a Now this is the plague with which Adonai will strike all the peoples that wage war against Jerusalem: The details in the rest of this verse are graphic and seem to describe the results of a selective (only on those who “war against Jerusalem”) atomic detonation. But that’s my speculation. The point being made to us is to choose life in Messiah Yeshua and live. Shalom shalom.
