RR Psalm 41:13(12) Part 7

(Early) Shabbat Shalom

Psalm 41:13 You uphold me in my integrity and set me before Your face forever.

Today, we begin the conclusion of our study of Psalm 41 with the next to last verse (Part 7).   These closing thoughts are fitting.  First, King David addresses the position of his integrity which he notes is before God’s face.  In Hebrew, the phrase “before Your face” is idiomatic, as this is how we simply say “before.”

Rabbi Trail:  Like a street hood who says, “In yo face, bro,” except much more respectful, since we’re addressing God, Who created the universe.  When we are before God, we are always before His face.  End RT.

BTW - It is not just our integrity that is before God, but everything that makes us, us, is always before Him.  Not only that, but this goes both ways. Psalm 16:8 I have set Adonai always before me. Since He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Let’s change gears for a moment.  What is “integrity” anyway?  The Hebrew word is “Tom” (with a long “o” as in “tome”).  It can have several meanings and connotations including: completeness, (figuratively) prosperous, (morally) innocent, blameless, and upright.  These terms are synonymous with our familiar word, “Shalom.”

When Yeshua said, John 14:27a “Shalom I leave you, My shalom I give to you,” He was giving us His integrity.  The power of God that makes Yeshua perfect is now at work in us, to make us perfect.  Romans 8:11 And if the Ruach of the One who raised Yeshua from the dead dwells in you, the One who raised Messiah Yeshua from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Ruach who dwells in you.

That’s right, we have that same spirit in us that raised Yeshua from the dead at work in us.  Ephesians 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be like children, tossed around by the waves and blown all over by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of men with cunning in deceitful scheming.  15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all ways into Messiah, who is the Head.

God is calling His people to maturity, and maturity in Him includes having integrity which is defined above as completeness, (figuratively) prosperous, (morally) innocent, righteous, blameless, upright and of course, Shalom shalom (the double portion).
